2021 Johanna Mugler

The Caroline von Humboldt Award was presented to legal anthropologist Johanna Mugler on November 17, 2021.

 

Johanna Mugler convinced the selection committee as an excellent young scholar with her fascinating interdisciplinary research, which deals in an innovative way with questions of legal pluralism, the intersection of regulatory systems and competition and the negotiation of the legitimacy of norms. Johanna Mugler has been teaching and researching at the Institute of Social Anthropology at the University of Bern since September 2012. Supported by the Caroline von Humboldt Award, Johanna Mugler will be "Scientist in Residence" at the Faculty of Law at the Humboldt University of Berlin in 2022.

The award ceremony took place as a hybrid event and included welcoming speeches by President Prof. Dr-.Ing. Dr. Sabine Kunst, a speech by Dr. Edelgard Bulmahn, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Humboldt University, and the laudatory speech for Dr. Mugler by Prof. Dr. Julia Eckert, who was connected via video recording from Bern. Jazz piano provided the musical backdrop in the Senate Hall.
